Introduction

One of the hardest things as a parent is seeing your child stay cooped up inside with their video games instead of going outside.

We try to entice them with games, rewards, or food, but sometimes – nothing works.

We at Stretch-N-Grow San Antonio understand how difficult it is to teach children the importance of exercise, healthy eating, and good habits in a way that’s exciting, engaging, and funtastic.

So — as a company that has been helping children engage in exercise for 22 years–we’ve seen some of the best and the worst exercises for children. And to help all the parents out there… we’ve decided to give you a curated list of the top 3 exercises your children will actually enjoy.

They’re so simple, it’s surprising. (And so fun!)

3 Exercises Your Children Will Actually Enjoy

1. Yoga Freeze Dance:

Start this game off by playing some kid-friendly music. When you hear the music, start dancing and moving around with your best dance moves.

At some point, you’ll want to stop the music randomly (like musical chairs). Have the kids look at you, and strike a yoga pose the kids will then copy. Hold the pose for 10 seconds, and then start the music again.

2. Hopscotch

Go outside and draw 9 squares. The 1st by itself, the 2nd and 3rd connected above the 1st, the 4th by itself, the 5th and 6th connected above the 4th, the 7 by itself, and then the 8th and 9th connected at the top. Your children will jump through each singular square with one leg, and each connected square with their legs in each square. This is super fun for the kids because they get to jump around and have a grand ole’ time.

3. Red light, Green light

You can do this inside or outside. Go to wherever you find is more comfortable and safer. Have your kid positioned a few feet away from you. When you yell out “green light” they’ll run towards you. When you yell out “red light” they must stop. If they don’t stop, they have to start back over, but if they make it all the way to the end correctly, they win!

We actually include this game in our Fitness Stars program where we teach daycare children how to get super strong while also having a ton of fun!

Our kids LOVE these games, and we know yours will too!

We hope this helps get your kids off the video games and into the engaging enrichment exercises.
